Water works in your area from November 2021

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep water flowing. With some upcoming works in City Road, Southbank you might see us or our contractor Comdain around.

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

This project is to upgrade water pipes. So you can always rely on us when you need a drink, a bath, to wash the clothes or dishes.

We started this project at Kings Way in late August 2021 and have finished construction on City Road between Kings Way and Clarendon Street, York Street and Nelson Road and works in Ferrars Street. We still have some to reinstate some of these areas. We’ll keep you updated.

We’ve encountered some unexpected delays at the Clarendon Street intersection and now anticipate the project to finish by the end of October.

If we need to interrupt your water supply, don’t worry, we’ll notify you in advance to organise connection to a temporary supply.

When it's happening

We’re sorry about the delay - we know it’s frustrating. We now anticipate to finish this project by the end of October (depending on the weather).

We’ll be working between Clarendon and York Streets until the end of October. Works will be undertaken during the day where possible. For safety, technical and permit reasons we’ll need to do some work at night.

This will include night works at the Clarendon Street intersection from late August until early September.

During day works you can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 3.30pm. During night works you can expect us to work Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 6am.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice while we work:

  • More trucks on the streets around you.
  • Less car parks around the work zones.
  • Noise from machinery, like beepers when trucks reverse.
  • A change in normal traffic flow.
  • Lights when we work at night.
  • Our traffic management team will be around to make sure people, bikes and cars can move around safely.

We’re working with Comdain to help us.

If you’re a business, you’ll need to make sure that the works and any interruption to water supply don’t affect your emergency fire plan. You’ll also need to let your insurer know.

If connected to a temporary water supply and you need to isolate water coming inside your property, please use the ball valve handle on the pipe, just before your water meter, to turn off your water. Alternatively, contact us on 1800 814 900 for assistance.

When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and make sure we return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition.

We manage a proacitve infrastructure program which involves replacing, maintaining and upgrading the existing water  and sewerage infrastructure above and below the ground, so you can always rely on us when you need a drink, a bath, to wash the clothes or dishes and every time you flush or send water down the drain.

Comdain will complete these works on behalf of South East Water. 

During construction we may need to block your driveway access. If this is necessary, we will notify you in peron and where possible, provide at least 24 hours' notice so that alternative parkting arrangements can be made.

To safely undertake these works, traffic conditions may change so please take care when travelling around the construction sites. 

No. If you experience any disruption to your water or sewerage services please call our Faults and Emergency Department, which operates 24 hours a day, on 132 812.


When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition. 

There is no cost to the property or business owner for these works.
